“Finish, nothing more and nothing less”
From a very young age Arjan Bos was into motocross. He raced in local competitions and watched the Dakar on tv. It were the days of glory for Jan de Rooy, and little Arjan was busy checking the news to follow the adventures. At the age of 16 he set out on his first adventure on his own, travelling the west coast of the United States. After finishing school at the age of 18 he went to Canada for six months to travel, live and work. Back home Arjan Bos started to work in the family business of greenhouse farming, specialized in growing bell peppers (paprika) and at the age of 22 he started his own greenhouse company. Normally the first weeks of the year are quite busy in the farmhouse, but this time Bos has other things on his mind than baby paprika plants. At 40, married and father of 3 boys, is setting off for the biggest adventure so far: debuting in the Dakar.
“By asking other Dutch Dakar riders what the best way of starting this journey would be, I joined HT Rally raid. We made a two year plan to make sure I got the best possible preparation for the 2017 Dakar. I started doing roadbook trips and after a while we decided to enter a real World Championship FIM rally to learn all the concepts of rally riding and navigation. After finishing both the Sardegna rally and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge without any big issues we were confident that my preparation was good enough to subscribe to the Dakar. To me it is the single real adventure that is left for a motorbike rider. Regarding my goal, that's very simple: I want to finish, nothing more and nothing less.”
